Geneva Show Latest: All-New Cadillac ATS Sedan to Make European Debut
2012-02-15
Zurich – The all-new Cadillac ATS compact sedan will make its European premiere at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Quick, nimble and fun-to-drive, it features a new rear-drive architecture and has been developed to challenge the dominant position of European car makers in the premium compact segment.
Scheduled to go on sale in Europe this autumn, the ATS gives Cadillac entry to the world’s largest-selling premium car segment and is expected to attract new, younger buyers to the brand. Its arrival represents another key step in Cadillac’s renaissance as a successful, global luxury brand.
“The ATS ticks all the right boxes for European customers,“ says Wolfgang Schubert, Cadillac Europe Managing Director. “It is stylish, quick, nimble and great fun to drive. We are very excited to be adding this superb vehicle to our product portfolio. It has all the right credentials to seriously challenge the status quo in the premium compact segment.”
Superb driving dynamics and minimized vehicle weight are the key attributes of the ATS’s all-new vehicle architecture. It is the most agile and lightweight car to carry the Wreath & Crest emblem, with one of the lowest curb weights in its class and a near-perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.
Power is supplied by an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder engine rated at 201 kW/273 hp. Its exceptional specific power output exceeds that of any engine offered by the ATS’s European competitors.
The sophisticated safety features in the ATS bolster driver vision and awareness of road hazards, and intervenes to help the driver avert potential crashes. In some cases, Cadillac’s advanced crash-avoidance systems will act without the driver, such as automatic braking, which will activate based on information indicating potential hazards.
Just as impressive is Cadillac CUE (Cadillac User Experience), a premium infotainment system offering ATS drivers intuitive functionality and unparalleled levels of customized in-vehicle connectivity.
Sleek, aerodynamic lines give the ATS a sporty visual appeal that reflects its engaging, run-to-drive character. Inside and out, it features the signature styling and refinement cues of Cadillac’s Art & Science design language, now tailored in new proportions for the most compact Cadillac yet built.
Other highlights on the Cadillac stand at Geneva include: the awesome CTS V-Series, the world’s fastest family of series production cars, the widely-acclaimed SRX Crossover and the innovative Escalade Hybrid SUV.
