Cadillac SRX: More Powerful 3.0-liter V6 Engine
- 199 kW/270 hp, 3.0 V6 with enhanced pulling power
- Advanced AWD with electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD)
- Distinctive, alternative choice in premium Crossover segment
Zurich – Cadillac’s popular SRX Crossover receives an improved 199 kW/270 hp 3.0-liter V6 engine for Model Year 2012, featuring maximum torque generated at a lower engine speed for enhanced pulling power.
Other improvements include Bluetooth phone connectivity as standard and the addition of a heated steering wheel for Sport Luxury variants.
With its advanced all-wheel drive system, striking aesthetics and a premium quality execution, the SRX provides a technically exceptional and fresh alternative choice within Europe’s high-end crossover segment.
More pulling power
The all-aluminum, 3.0-liter V6 features gasoline direct injection and continuously variable valve timing. It delivers robust performance associated with larger-displacement engines, while keeping the SRX’s fuel consumption down to a minimum.
For the new model year, it now delivers maximum torque of 301 Nm at 3,200 rpm, instead of 5,100 rpm, enabling greater flexibility and more pulling power lower down the engine speed range. Maximum horsepower is also increased slightly to 199 kW/270 hp at 7,000 rpm.
Direct fuel injection delivers a 25 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions during a cold-start, while continuously variable valve timing optimizes both power and fuel efficiency, as well as further reducing emissions. Like all Cadillac engines, the 3.0-liter V6 is compatible with E10 fuel.
A Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission is fitted as standard and includes a Sport Mode, as well as Direct Shift Control for sporty manual shifting. Zero to 100 km/h acceleration in achieved in just 8.4 seconds.
Sophisticated AWD system
The SRX delivers optimal handling and performance in all driving conditions through innovative all-wheel drive (AWD) technology, which distributes torque as needed not only between the axles, but also between rear wheels. The system is both pre-emptive, reading vehicle characteristics and predicting when slip may occur, and active-on-demand, requiring no action from the driver.
It consists of three main components: a power takeoff unit attached to the transaxle; a three-piece propeller shaft running longitudinally under the chassis; and a compact rear drive module, supported by a sub-frame. The rear drive module comprises three assemblies: a torque transfer device, the mechanical differential and a standard-setting, electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) which is able to transfer up to 85 percent of drive torque between the rear wheels.
The eLSD operates via pressurized clutch plates, like the larger torque transfer device, and plays a critical role in providing sure-footed handling, especially in icy or wet split-friction conditions. When cornering hard or completing a high speed maneuver, such as a lane change, the eLSD momentarily applies more or less torque to either of the wheels, in order to help the rear of the car more closely follow the direction of the front wheels. As a result, eLSD keeps the vehicle balanced and tightly controlled without requiring intervention from the StabiliTrak (electronic stability control) system.
While engineered primarily for on-road use, the SRX’s AWD system enables excellent traction and mobility off-road. In addition, the Sport Luxury variant features continuously variable damping in response to road conditions for a smooth ride quality.
Eye-catching design
Beyond tight handling and performance, the SRX was designed to make a statement. Its face is framed by a multi-piece shield grille and Cadillac’s iconic vertical headlamps including light pipe technology. With tightly wrapped, sweeping bodywork tapering downwards at the rear – incorporating an integrated rear spoiler – the SRX is all about energy. Its dynamic looks are reinforced by a wide stance, minimal front and rear overhangs and 18 or 20-inch wheels pushed out to the corners of the vehicle. A powered tailgate with adjustable height settings comes as standard.
Inside, the SRX’s cabin combines high-end refinement with high-tech equipment. The hand-cut-and-sewn coverings on the instrument panel and ambient lighting reveal high attention to detail, as does a navigation screen with 3D-imaging that rises from the center of the instrument panel. The standard, 10 speaker Bosch 5.1 Surround Sound audio system incorporates a 40 GB integrated hard disc drive for music file storage. A dual-screen system for rear seat entertainment and an UltraView sunroof covering 70 percent of the vehicle’s roof are both offered as options.
