Zurich. Chevrolet sold 206,400* cars in Western and Central Europe** in 2011, up 1,600 versus 2010, achieving the brand’s best ever share of the total vehicle market at 1.24 percent.
Chevrolet recorded sales growth in 20 and share growth in 16 Western and Central European markets compared to 2010. Seven countries achieved record market shares in 2011, many of them celebrating their highest ever sales volumes, too: Austria (1.18% market share), France (0.88%), Germany (0.86%), Poland (2.28%), Serbia (5.02%), Slovenia (2.95%) and Turkey (2.6%).
"We performed well and saw our share grow in a challenging European market in 2011," said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe. Chevrolet launched seven new models in 2011, extending its line-up to cover more than 50 percent of the market segments. "With our all-new line-up now at showrooms across Europe, 2012 presents an exciting opportunity for further growth," said Susan Docherty.
The Chevrolet Spark was Chevrolet's best-seller in Europe, taking 5.5 percent of the mini segment with 66,400 cars sold. The Chevrolet Aveo small car sold 51,000 times and the Chevrolet Cruze, now also available in the popular hatchback bodystyle, achieved sales of 39,400. The Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan was again the segment leader in several European markets and is Chevrolet's best selling model worldwide with more than 1 million units sold since its launch in 2009. In 2012, the Chevrolet Cruze station wagon will be launched, covering another important segment in Western and Central Europe.
The Chevrolet Captiva SUV and the Chevrolet Orlando family van continue to enjoy high demand, selling 24,300 and 20,600 units in 2011, respectively. Sales of the iconic Camaro sports car, segment leader in the U.S.A., reached 600 in the first few months of sales in Europe, with 40 percent of the volume going to France.
In total Europe***, Chevrolet sold a record 517,800 vehicles in 2011, an increase of 40,500 units or 8.5 percent over 2010, also achieving a record market share of 2.61 percent. Chevrolet was able to defend its position as the number one import brand in Russia, selling 173,500 cars and SUVs there in 2011, an increase of 57,200 vehicles, for a market share of 6.39 percent.
In addition, Chevrolet sold 15,133 cars and trucks in Israel**** in 2011.
