Facility Details
Fairfax Assembly Plant has a long history of producing World Class Quality vehicles in the Kansas City area since 1945. The Kansas City Plant was the first industrial facility to operate as a dual purpose facility producing automobiles and jet fighters in the same building. In 1985 it was announced that a new Fairfax Assembly Plant would be constructed. Since opening the new Fairfax Plant numerous awards have been accomplished by the workforce, represented by UAW Local 31. Soon after investing $722 million in 2003, the Chevrolet Malibu was launched. In 2005, the Fairfax Plant built its 10 millionth vehicle. Investments of $651 million in 2006 for the launch of the Saturn Aura, $208 million in 2008 and $158 million in 2009 for the Buick LaCrosse, the Fairfax Assembly Plant has become the largest employer in the Kansas City Metro area. Currently, vehicle manufacturing operates on three shifts and produces one vehicle every 58 seconds. In 2010, Fairfax produced over 320,000 vehicles.
